Statement from Senator Anthony Palumbo Regarding the passage of this Year’s finalized State Budget

 New York State Senator Anthony Palumbo (R, C-New Suffolk) today issued the following statement regarding the passage of this year’s late state budget:

“It was imperative for this year’s finalized State Budget to contain policy changes that would make New York State a safer and more affordable place to live. Unfortunately, the budget badly missed the mark in both these critical areas.

Instead of providing needed relief to combat rising costs, high taxes, and historic inflation, the budget places additional burdens on families, seniors, and small-businesses at a time when they can least afford it.

The budget also failed to address the state’s skyrocketing crime rates and rejected attempts to give judges greater discretion when setting bail.    

By ignoring and exacerbating the most pressing concerns of New Yorkers, this year’s late state budget will only precipitate New York’s mass exodus while making the state more dangerous and unaffordable for residents who stay.  

For these reasons, I voted no on this year’s state budget. New Yorkers deserve a great deal more from their State Government in these difficult and uncertain times.”
