Suffolk Delegation Comprises 20% of the State Senate GOP Conference
MEDFORD, NY – Suffolk County Republican Chairman Jesse Garcia today announced the victory of GOP Candidates and incumbents in four of Suffolk’s State Senate seats, including defeat of a Democratic incumbent in Senate District #3, winning open seats in Senate Districts #1 and 2, and retaining Senate District #4.
Senator-elect Alexis Weik was determined to be the winner of the Third Senatorial District on December 1, defeating incumbent Democratic Senator Monica Martinez. Assemblyman Anthony Palumbo succeeded Senator Ken LaValle in the First Senate District, while Mario Mattera succeeded Senator John Flanagan in the Second Senate District and Senator Phil Boyle earned re-election in the Fourth Senate District.
“These hard fought victories during a difficult year are a resounding rejection of Democratic one-party rule and their far left policies that have made our families less safe, raised our taxes and driven away good jobs that have hurt our economy,” said Chairman Garcia. “These four candidates overcame a number of challenges and, despite Andrew Cuomo attempting to weaponize COVID and our very election system, they emerged victorious.”
“It is great to welcome Alexis, Anthony and Mario to the Senate Republican Conference! Working together, we will stand up for our taxpayers, fight for our families and ensure our communities are safe. All three will bring unique experiences to their new positions and that will benefit all Suffolk County residents,” stated Senator Boyle (4th Senate District).
“I am humbled and grateful to the voters who have entrusted me with this awesome responsibility. I also want to thank Chairman Garcia, the Suffolk County Conservative Party and the men and women of law enforcement who supported my candidacy. The voters have clearly spoken that they want a representative who makes protecting the public’s safety and our way of life on Long Island a priority,” stated Senator-Elect Weik (3rd Senate District).
“I am truly honored to have earned the trust and support of the majority of residents on the East End and the Town of Brookhaven in my effort to represent them in the New York State Senate. As our new Senator, I will work hard every day to continue the legacy of retiring Senator Ken LaValle and build upon his strong record of protecting the environment, supporting our schools, and fighting for taxpayers. Thank you for putting your trust in me. I am proud and truly grateful to have the opportunity to continue serving our Long Island communities in the New York State Legislature,” added Senator-Elect Palumbo (1stSenate District).
“Now that the counting is complete, we are ready to work together to bring the voice of all who live in our community to our state government and make sure that the needs of our families are met. The time has come to put Long Island first and I look forward to getting to Albany to fight for our hardworking families. Thank you to all of the supporters, especially my family and friends, for the faith they have placed in me. Special thanks to Suffolk County Republican Chairman Garcia, Suffolk Conservative Chairman Mike Torres, Suffolk County Independence Chairman Frank McKay, Smithtown Republican Chairman Bill Ellis, Smithtown Vice Chairman Bernard Brady and Huntington Republican Chairman Tom McNally for their unwavering support,” said Senator-Elect Mattera (2ndSenate District).
In their first act of the 2021 New York State Legislative Session, the Suffolk GOP State Senate delegation will file a taxpayer protection and law enforcement package that will:
Reinstate the STAR rebate checks cancelled by Cuomo and State Legislature Democrats, which cost Suffolk County Families a minimum of $700 per year
Full repeal of the failed elimination of bail program that resulted in a “catch and release” of criminals
Repeal of the $7 billion in taxes imposed by Democrats over the past year
The new Suffolk State Senate delegation will also fight for the restoration of billions of dollars in state aid cut from local schools and governments.
