Suffolk County Republican Chairman Jesse Garcia today questioned whether Democrat candidate for State Senate, and former County Legislator, Sarah Anker is fit to serve the residents of the 1st Senate District.  His query comes after the Suffolk County Legislature’s decision to launch an investigation into Ms. Anker’s removal and destruction of documents following her departure from the County Legislature. 

“Sarah Anker has broken the public trust,” said Chairman Garcia. “While the investigation is ongoing, it is clear that Ms. Anker and her staff went out of their way to hinder incoming County Legislator Chad Lennon in his efforts to serve the district. This is the exact type of petty, partisan politics Long Islanders are tired of.”

As reported in the Brookhaven Messenger (10/10/24) Legislator Chad Lennon noted that “The only thing I had was a post-it note that said ‘good luck’ on my keyboard, signed by Sarah Anker. At first, I thought it was just a nice gesture, but it later clicked what that might have meant.” Legislator Lennon went on to state that cabinets and desks were empty and no constituent files were left in the office. 

“Sarah Anker wants us to believe that there were no open constituent cases post-Election Day or that there were no long term projects or issues to be addressed.  Her actions are dishonest and a disservice to her former constituents—the same individuals she’s looking to represent in the State Senate,” said Garcia. “Anker represents the worst in our public officials and her actions make her unfit to serve in any capacity, let alone the New York State Senate.” 

The Suffolk County Legislature convened an Executive Session on Friday, October 18th in regards to the ongoing investigation.
